For me, learning Japanese is hitting two birds with one stone. First, I have a goal of working in Japan in the future. Second, I love the language, culture of Japan, anime, and reading manga–these are some of the reasons I want to be fluent. I wish to feel more connected to what I read and watch.

At first, learning with JLRC was very fast-paced, but what I liked is there is a recorded lesson for busy people. I believe that if you’re really serious in learning the language, you will make time for it. The 先生 (senseis) were very kind and approachable. In discussing the Kaiwa part of the assignment, there was no pressure and there was an opportunity for our grammar to be corrected.

I can definitely recommend JLRC for those seriously learning the language and for busy people because of their flexible scheduling options. The exam and quizzes are JLPT-structured so once you take the [JLPT], you’re already used to it [the format]. All things you need are already there.

They live up to their tag line “LESS TIME, LESS COST, and LESS EFFORT” and I am living proof of that. In just 4 months, I was able to confidently pass the N5 exam. I also completed the N4 courses in JLRC and I am very amazed that I can now understand a lot of conversations in anime. My listening and comprehension improved a lot.

What helped me the most is the original textbook of JLRC–very direct explanation and condensed. I cannot find a similar textbook like this anywhere. It is worth every penny.

The most enjoyable part for me is the Kaiwa and translation exercises because, there, I can flex 💪what I learned and I had the opportunity to let my sensei correct my grammar (hanashikata). I believe this activity helps in gaining confidence in Kaiwa, especially for people not yet living in Japan. It’s a good way to practice Japanese in class.
